(01) — Ways to partner

More than one way to work together.

Consulting projects are our primary form of engaging with a company, but there are a handful of other ways to partner with DSS, from recruiting to speaker events and hackathons.

Consulting projects

Bring us any data problem, model idea, or research question, and we'll match it with a dedicated student team. Within one semester, we take it from idea to a shipped solution.

  • Hand-picked team of 2 PMs, 3-4 consultants, and a senior advisor
  • Semester-long engagement with weekly/biweekly check-ins
  • All materials produced throughout the process belong to the client's IP

Recruiting & career fairs

Meet Berkeley's strongest tech students before graduation through booths, infosessions, and referrals.

Speaker events & tech talks

Put your engineers in front of an engaged technical audience with a talk, workshop, or fireside chat to broadcast your company to passionate young talent.

Hackathon sponsorship

Sponsor a track, provide a real-world problem and dataset, judge projects, and recruit directly from a room of builders.

(02) — Process

More Details About Our Process

Projects run on a semester cadence with a dedicated team and a defined scope to work on.

01

Team structure

Each engagement gets a hand-picked team of students consisting of 2 project managers, 3-4 consultants, and a senior advisor. Students are picked for a project based on relevant experience in the project scope or the client’s industry. Weekly check-ins are also in place to keep clients in the loop without directly managing the project.

02

Project scopes

Common scopes include, but are not limited to:

  • Generative AI, LLMs, NLP
  • Predictive modeling & ML
  • Computer Vision
  • Data Analytics & Visualization
  • Software/Cloud Development
03

Why student teams

Our members intern across industry throughout their time at Berkeley and go on to full-time roles at leading technology, finance, and consulting firms.

Partnering is the best way to not only target a focused project scope but also build an early talent pipeline.

Project Timeline

Fall / Spring — both semesters follow the same five stages.

  1. We finalize the SOW + additional documents and lock the project scope together. Everything regarding projects, from legal forms to the problem statement are defined here before project work starts.
